Pour les magasins et surtout les boutiques, les fenêtres avant sont très importantes, elles montrent ce qu’ils offrent et essaient d’attirer les gens et les enfants que les regardent. Je fais souvent du lèche-vitrines parce que je n’ai pas d’argent et parce qu’il y a une sorte de mystère que j’associe entre les boutiques et leurs fenêtres et je ne veux pas détruire ce mystère. J’imagine un temps où les petits-enfants regardent les fenêtres souhaitant qu’ils puissent avoir un vélo ou un morceau de chocolat, où les femmes regardent les vêtements sur les mannequins ou elles regardent leurs reflets. Les reflets m’intéressent, parfois l’éclairage ne permet pas à on de regarder les produits et l’intérieure, plutôt on voit soi-même et tous qui cernent le magasin en question. Parfois on vois les deux l’intérieure et l’extérieur, à ce moment une autre histoire est née.
Je trouve que la deuxième photo est la meilleure. Elle a le meilleur équilibre entre ce qui est dans le magasin et l’extérieur, et je pense que c’est plus intéressant comme ça.
I really like this essay. Putting the photos in black and white adds to the aesthetic and the Atget-ness of your compositions. I particularly like the last picture––although it is busy, I think it adds to the feel of a crowded antique shop with all the nic nacs and natural lack of organization that is often found there. The silhouette of the person inside adds also adds a pleasing human value. Perhaps cropping the frame or shifting your position slightly to tighten the photo would help bring it all together, but otherwise great job!
Great essay. I also agree with the decision to render the images black and white, I feel it captures the nostalgic value of these store fronts. I also really like your sequencing. To me your strongest images are your second and fifth photos. Your first is also quite strong. By starting with the bicycle wheel and moving into the store front, you don't "reveal your ace" right from the start. In my opinion you have a slight drop off with image three and then pick it back up again and end with what is, in my opinion, your best photo in the series. Great project!
