Pendant le jour, Provo est une ville des gens heureux, des sourires, des foules, du bruit. Il me semble qu'il y a toujours l'exigence de s'impliquer, d'être occupé et d'être heureux au même temps. Il y a toujours quelque chose pour distraire ou une tâche à faire. Mais pour moi, des moments de silence et de calme sont essentiels pour le bonheur. Bien qu'il est facile de se perdre parmi toute l'activité et l'action du jour, la nuit présente le contraste parfait. Sous la lumière de la lune, la ville se calme. Les foules disparaissent, les cris des amis s'estompent, et le monde est un peu plus tranquille. Les réverbères fournissent juste assez de lumière pour illuminer le chemin, et la simplification du monde me permet de penser à des choses élevées, des choses plus importantes que ce qui occupait mon esprit plus tôt.
Your 4th and 5th pictures are my favorites! I like the long exposure on the rain and the light in the 4th one, and the composition on the 5th one is great! I feel like these pictures could seem dark or spooky, but with your text, they seem like they came out of some Audrey Hepburn film!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are easily some of my favorites. I thought the composition and lighting were very effective in portraying a distinct mood; in truth, though, the mood I felt from the photos was a little more somber than tranquil. That said, I certainly did feel the contrast between day and night; the feeling of nighttime and its solitude, as opposed to the brightness of daytime, is easily grasped (at least for me). The street lights that are present in each photo give a solitary feel that I really appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore these images. The long exposure is perfect for the provo at night feel. It is so hard to capture rain, I love that you can see the way it is falling and the effects that has on the streets, the lights, and the shadows. The last two are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love your essay: the photos have a creepy effect that is at the same time really beautiful. I know that seems impossible but those are the impressions I take away from your photos. That second photo especially is so haunting because it's night and the figure is so blurred. I like that there is a street lamp in each of your photos. The only one I might have retaken would be the first. Maybe if it had a light in the foreground or if the car wasn't cut off it might speak to me a little more. It's still a good photo though and it works in the series.
ReplyDeleteok, the rain photos are seriously awesome. You've inspired me to take pictures of the elements, whereas I typically shy away from that and think "Oh, it's raining, I can't take pictures." You show that rain really creates a beautiful blurring effect in a photo. I like how it sort of melts the moon so that it's no longer a perfectly round object. Also, good job at staying within the limits of your camera. Night shots aren't easy.
ReplyDeleteYou've done it again! Your pictures remind me very much of Brassai, finding a whole new, almost sinister world in the provo night. I love the photo of the blurred person, and how light connects all your pictures and gives sequencing a nice flow. You did a great job of working with the weather and the time of day. (well night). Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are great. They have a certain "decisive moment" quality to them. The effect created by the rain in the last two is incredible. I want to see them in color because for some reason I think they must be me much less interesting in color, I just want to know.
