What does a geologist really do with his or her time? As the general public, what we generally see is the result, a seemingly obvious answer. The geologist's job, however, is a complicated one that most people don't care to think about, but someone's got to do it. Otherwise you end with people living below sea level...oh wait...well, at least people don't live over sink holes or on fault lines...ignore that...they do make sure sure no one lives on the flanks of a volcano....okay...bad examples. But these problems are not caused by geologists not doing their jobs. It's because people don't listen to them when they do their job. And yet still they do it...probably for the pleasure in saying I told you so. The following are photographs of the typical geologist doing typically geology that typically no one notices.
Observe
Take Meticulous Notes
Analyze
Wait.........
The Sedimentologist
The Petrologist
The Paleontologist
The Student.
haha, thats a lot of rocks. ;) I really like the picture of the guy w. the googles looking into the glass. and "the student" that yellow is perfect there for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be the Eyring Science Center, I know this building well. I really like your use of perspective. It seems like in every photo there is one color that stands out above all the rest, it's really great work.
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool idea! It's an interesting subject and really well-executed.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I like the goggles picture
ReplyDeleteI think that as far as representing the major you did an excellent job. It's more interesting to me to see people doing what it is that they do, rather than just line-em-up and shoot. There are some subjects that are maybe a little less geology-specific than others, but on the whole the concept is well developed
ReplyDeleteI really like the first picture, especially since it's showing the student observing rocks, and it's the rocks that are in focus. We can see clearly the same rocks he is studying.
ReplyDeleteI really like the first picture because the angle of the picture kind of shows us the progression of the worker--like he started at the first rock and has made his way down the line.
ReplyDeleteI like this because not many people did photographs of majors - particularly such an interesting one that not very many people know about. Very interesting
ReplyDeleteI like that you chose such an uncommon major and the photos you took don't make me feel like I am just looking at the same one over and over again. I love the different angles and view points.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the enlightenment into the world of geologists. As said in class I really like the photos of the people at work. They are really engaging. I do agree with Prof Olivier about the photo with the student reading, although I understand why you put it in there. It takes a lot of reading to be or do anything and it represents that well.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really thought about the geology department before. These are so really cool photos though. I especially like the angle on the fourth one
