The Looking Glass

For this project I decided to go around with a full length mirror and photograph my head with other people's bodies. This was a transcendental experience to see other people from their perspective, to be in 'their shoes', to imagine their life...

What is it like to be pregnant, to have someone living inside you and not be schizophrenic?

What is it like to be buff, to have people ooh and aah over your body?

What is it like to be black, to be a unique minority at BYU?

What is it like to be stylish, to always be looking your best?

What is it like to be French, to have to degrade oneself to eating American food?

What is it like to be 'simply stunning', to be indescribable yet so desirable?

  4. I really like your use of black and white here. It just seems more fitting. Conceptually the idea is great and the mirror makes clean lines across you as the canvas. Good work!

  6. This was a great idea, Ben. the concept and the photos work really well together, and I love how simple is all is. Black and white really helped your message by keeping it really simple.

  7. Ben, all I can say is that one day I hope to have a spark of the fire of creativity that burns inside you. This essay has changed my life - thank you.

  8. Your deadpan expression provides the perfect foil to the rather provocative poses. Your non-reaction itself defines the photos. Excellent contrast.

  9. Umm, awesome. I appreciate the humor, especially the decidedly non-francophile humor. I also thought this was a really great concept.
